How to know if a mobile phone has two SIMs. First steps.

If you wonder How to know if a mobile phone has two SIMs, the first advice I give you is to check the technical specifications of your device.

Before explaining how to do this, however, let me clarify something important. At this time, only android devices are fully supported with dual SIM mode. The iPhone, instead, it never had a compartment to physically insert two SIM cards.

The only exceptions concern the latest models: iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max and iPhone XR, which, however, offer dual SIM support only through the combined use of a nano-SIM physics and a ESim. That is, a digital SIM that is active through the telephone operator.

Check the technical specifications

With that said, we come to us. As already mentioned, the presence of dual SIM support is a feature that is indicated in the data sheet of the mobile phone. So if, for example, you bought your phone from Amazon, you can find this information at Product name and in the section Product Details. There you will find all the specifications of the device.

Alternatively, you can always check the technical specifications published on the manufacturer’s official website (for example, doing a Google search for the type “Technical characteristics (mobile phone model)”.

Check the IMEI

If, for some reason, you cannot find information about dual SIM support in the technical specifications of your device, you can understand whether a mobile phone has two SIMs through the IMEI. In fact, if a mobile phone is dual SIM, it will be equipped with two IMEI codes.

The first solution you can implement to check IMEI can be done on any brand and model of mobile phone. To proceed, in fact, simply start the marker (the application with which traditional calls are made) on the device and, on the dialing screen, enter the code * # 06 #.

Once this is done, if the mobile phone in your possession is dual SIM, they will be automatically displayed on the screen two IMEI codes of 15 digits each.

Alternatively, to check the IMEI you can act through the menu of settings from Android. So, press the app with the gear symbol present on the home screen of your device and access the menu About phone> Status> IMEI data.

At this point, you will be shown the IMEI code mobile phone: if it supports dual SIM, you will find two different IMEI codes marked with the words IMEI (Slot 1) and IMEI (Slot 2).

Finally, don’t forget that in some cases you can also check the IMEI by physically opening the mobile phone and checking the internal tags. In this sense, in case of doubts or problems, consult the instructions that I have given you in my guide on how to verify the IMEI.

Check your settings

You can also get information about the dual SIM support of a mobile phone by acting through settings from Android.

To do this, touch the application with the gear symbol located on the home screen or in the drawer of your mobile phone (the screen with the list of all the applications installed on the latter). Then, on the next screen that appears, tap the text SIM cards.

If your device supports dual SIM mode, you will find the wording indicated SIM slot 1 and SIM slot 2, confirming the possibility of inserting two SIM cards.

Cell phone open

Finally, if despite the solutions indicated in the previous chapters, you still have not been able to know if your mobile phone is dual SIM or not, I recommend that you implement an alternative solution that involves physically opening the mobile phone. We are still here with you to explain how to know if a mobile phone has two SIMs.

In some mobile phone models, by first removing the located cover and then the battery, they allow access to the compartment used to insert the SIM. In this way, you will be able to understand at a glance whether the mobile phone you are using is dual SIM (as there will be two separate compartments to insert the SIM) or not.

Note that in some cases, the second SIM slot is common with the one on the micro SD. So if you inserted a memory card in your phone, you may have ‘hidden’ what is actually also a secondary SIM slot.

If the mobile phone you are using cannot be physically opened as it is made up of a single metal block, there is almost certainly a side door to insert the SIM. Generally removable by inserting a metal clip into a special hole. In this case, by opening this door, you can understand at a glance whether the mobile phone is dual SIM, since obviously there will be two slots for inserting the cards.

In this sense, in case of doubts or problems, consult my tutorials on how to open the phone, such as the one in which I explain how to open a Samsung mobile phone, a Wiko brand or the one dedicated to inserting the SIM in Huawei devices.

So far today’s post. I hope it has been very helpful to you.
